Pope Leo XIV Names Kenyan Theologian to Vatican Commission
Pope Leo XIV appointed Kenyan priest and Tangaza University Vice Chancellor Patrick Mwania to the Vatican’s International Theological Commission, an advisory body that studies major theological questions for the Holy See and the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. Mwania, a theologian whose scholarship includes mission studies and the Church’s engagement with other religions, joins an international group of clerics and lay scholars. Other newly appointed members include theologians Khaled Anatolios of the University of Notre Dame and Boyd Coolman of Boston College. Commission members serve five-year terms and contribute expertise to the Church’s consideration of doctrinal and contemporary issues.
