Pope Leo's Brother Receives Myeloma Treatment
Pope Leo XIV’s older brother, Louis Prevost, is being treated in Florida for multiple myeloma, his wife, Deborah, told CBS News. Diagnosed in 2017, Louis received stem cell treatment and participated in a clinical trial in 2019; his cancer remained at a low level for years before he fell out of remission about three months ago and entered another clinical trial. The news comes as Pope Leo underwent surgery in Rome and doctors announced that he has lung cancer; the Vatican has not disclosed its stage or whether it has spread. Deborah said the brothers spoke last week and that the family is praying and trying to keep their spirits up.
