Portland Podiatrist Sentenced for Abusing 13 Patients
Portland podiatrist Brian Bowen, 52, was sentenced to 100 months—eight years and four months—in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing 13 female patients during examinations and surgical recovery. He was found guilty at trial of first-degree sexual abuse and later pleaded guilty to 12 additional counts, including sexual abuse by fraudulent representation under an Oregon law enacted in 2023. Prosecutors said the brief, nonverbal contact confused patients and allowed the abuse to continue over several years, with some victims coming forward after news of the initial investigation. Bowen must also register as a sex offender and serve several years of post-prison supervision. Authorities praised the victims for coming forward and said the sentence reflects the breach of trust involved in abusing patients seeking medical care.
