Portland Police Investigate Human Remains Found Downtown

Human remains were found Tuesday morning in a garbage bag at a downtown Portland encampment near Southwest Harvey Milk Street and Naito Parkway. A city-contracted Rapid Response crew had cleared the site Monday and returned around 9:15 a.m. after reports of additional items. Police called in the medical examiner and homicide unit and are investigating the death as suspicious, but have not ruled it a homicide. Investigators are speaking with people in the area and reviewing surveillance footage; police said they have no current indication of broader violent activity in the city.
