Possible Measles Exposures Reported Across US, Canada

Health officials have issued measles exposure alerts in several locations, including Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec; a Battle Ground, Washington, school; an Illinois restaurant; and Busch Stadium and nearby businesses in the St. Louis area. People who may have been exposed are being asked to watch for symptoms—such as fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and rash—for up to 21 days, and to call a health care provider before seeking in-person care if symptoms develop. In Battle Ground, unvaccinated people who may have been exposed are advised to stay home for three weeks, while officials work to identify at-risk students and staff. The St. Louis-area alerts follow measles cases linked to travel on a Chicago-bound train, including a confirmed case in a county resident. Health officials emphasize vaccination as an important protection, particularly for people at higher risk of complications.
