Power outages put water supplies at risk in Ekurhuleni and Richmond
A power outage at Richmond’s Department of Public Utilities pump station, caused by a vehicle striking a utility pole Monday evening, disrupted water pressure in the Museum District, the Fan, Northside and nearby neighborhoods. The station was switched to generator power while Dominion Energy worked to restore regular service; officials said pressure remained above 20 psi, the water was safe to drink and no boil-water advisory was issued. Separately, a power failure in Ekurhuleni left Rand Water unable to operate its Mapleton Pumping Station, putting supplies at risk in Ekurhuleni, Tshwane and several surrounding municipalities. Rand Water said it had received no restoration estimate from the city and urged officials to treat the outage as an emergency.
