Prescribed Burns Finish, Begin in New Mexico, Colorado
Cibola National Forest crews have completed prescribed pile burns across 401 acres in the Pueblo Colorado project area in Torrance County, New Mexico, and are mopping up and monitoring the site. No closures are in place, but visitors should watch for fire crews, and nearby residents may see residual smoke. Separately, Rocky Mountain National Park has started a planned 437-acre prescribed burn near Beaver Meadows to reduce vegetation that could fuel future wildfires. U.S. 36 remains open, though smoke and one-lane traffic controls may affect travel; smoke could linger for several days.
