Prime Video Cancels Emmy-Nominated Spider-Noir After One Season

Prime Video has canceled Spider-Noir after one eight-episode season, ending Nicolas Cage’s first regular television role. The series, which premiered on MGM+ before arriving on Prime Video, featured Cage as Ben Reilly, a private investigator and secret superhero in an alternate 1930s New York, with viewers able to watch episodes in color or black and white. Despite strong reviews, a 90% audience score and 2.6 billion viewing minutes in its first six weeks, the show reportedly lacked sustained viewership relative to its expensive production costs. The cancellation comes as Spider-Noir heads into the Creative Arts Emmys with 11 nominations, including recognition for production design, visual effects, sound and stunts. Amazon and Sony are reportedly continuing to develop other projects under their partnership, although no specific reason for the cancellation was disclosed.
