Providence Mayor-Elect Names 135 to Nine Policy Committees
Providence Mayor-elect David Morales has named 11 transition co-chairs and 135 volunteer members to nine policy committees, which will develop recommendations and help shape his administration’s early plans and longer-term goals. The transition is intended to turn his campaign’s affordability agenda into policy, including work on priorities such as rent stabilization and stronger public schools. Executive Director June Rose said the process will include a small-business committee with subcommittees on the nighttime economy, small-business support, and hospitality and tourism. One report noted that the initial co-chair group included politicians, city employees, nonprofit workers, and a union leader but no obvious business representatives, raising questions about the role of large businesses and developers; another said committee membership also includes people from major employers, financial services, and higher education.
