Johannesburg reopens 30 pools as Baltimore and Sydney advance new sites
Public-pool reopenings and construction are progressing in several cities, though timelines and plans differ. Johannesburg has reopened 30 pools, with 26 more still being worked on after delays attributed to maintenance, chemical and staffing shortages; city officials say key supply and staffing problems have largely been addressed, while some sites remain affected by electricity issues. In Baltimore County, pools in Dundalk and Randallstown are reopening under county management through a pilot program shaped by resident feedback, with affordable memberships, open swimming and fitness classes planned. In Sydney, construction is underway on a $63.5 million replacement Carss Park aquatic complex, featuring a 50-meter outdoor pool and a learners’ pool, with opening targeted for late 2027.
