Queer arts events spotlight history, liberation
LGBTQ+ communities are celebrating and preserving queer culture through public events, journalism and historical archives. In the Philippines, UP Babaylan announced a free UP Pride program at the University of the Philippines Diliman, featuring drag artists, musicians and speakers. In Johannesburg, MambaOnline marked 25 years of queer journalism with an exhibition of archival stories and photographs, while raising support for its future reporting. Seattle’s Museum of History and Industry hosted readings from oral histories documenting regional queer life, including community-building, activism and nightlife. In Manchester, writers created new work in response to the Queer Up North archive, illustrating how queer cultural records can inspire contemporary reflection and art.
