Micro-chunks emerge as tool for managing ADHD
A first-person essay on The Good Men Project describes how an unnamed lawyer, former special education teacher, and marathon runner breaks tasks into short units to manage ADHD. The author reports averaging 100 miles of running a week while training for a 2:25 marathon after a prior 2:34 finish. The essay recounts six years teaching special education in Baltimore and three years of night law school, a period that ended with the author running 80 miles a week, working 40 hours a week, and taking 15 law credits, then finishing with a 4.08 GPA that included two A+ grades. The author defines micro-chunks as moment-to-moment targets such as the next sentence, paragraph, or roadside landmark, and macro-chunks as rough 20-30 minute blocks for work, running, and reading. The essay states the tools aid focus and are set aside to be fully present at a wedding or with his wife. Separately, a Rula article by Saya Des Marais, posted Sept. 29, 2026 in the Lake Chelan Mirror, Paris Post-Intelligencer, and Uinta County Herald, states procrastination is not an officially recognized clinical symptom of ADHD, that more severe ADHD symptoms correlate with more procrastination, and that frequent procrastination is linked with lower life satisfaction in some cultures. The record lists one left-rated outlet and no center- or right-rated coverage.
