Regeneron Extends $270 Million Ebola Supply Deal
Regeneron announced Monday an extension of its supply agreement with the U.S. Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, adding about $270 million in value for additional Inmazeb doses through 2031 under an expanded 2020 contract. Inmazeb is FDA-approved for infection caused by Orthoebolavirus zairense. Regeneron President and Chief Executive Officer Leonard Schleifer said maintaining a ready supply of Inmazeb is exactly the kind of preparedness the country needs for threats already on the horizon. Separately, Regeneron is adding maftivimab to the PARTNERS clinical trial for Bundibugyo virus disease. The trial is sponsored by the World Health Organization and coordinated by the University of Oxford's Pandemic Sciences Institute. Laboratory and non-human primate studies showed activity against Bundibugyo virus, but the findings are only a preprint, not peer-reviewed, and clinical efficacy in humans is unestablished. No treatment is currently approved specifically for Bundibugyo. The Bundibugyo outbreak, first reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in May, has spread to four countries—the widest geographic spread of any Ebola outbreak on the continent to date. no contested claims found
