Rents Rise Across US Affordability Refuges
Rent pressures and housing supply are evolving differently across markets. In South Africa, tenants are unlikely to feel much immediate relief from fiscal measures: diesel-cost savings may be temporary, growth is forecast to slow, and longer-term benefits depend on reforms and dependable municipal services. In the United States, asking rents fell nationally for the 38th straight month in September, but rose in St. Louis and Minneapolis as renters priced out of more expensive Chicago helped drive demand. Los Angeles County has approved a master plan allowing substantial residential development at the L.A. General Medical Center campus, while separate projects include 17 affordable apartments in East Hollywood and a proposed 28-unit building in Silver Lake.
