Reported Mountain Lion Sightings Prompt Warnings Across West

Wildlife officials warned the public after mountain lion sightings near the Evans Canyon Trailhead at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno, noting that recent wildfires may be shifting wildlife in search of habitat and food. They advise trail users to keep children close and pets leashed; if approached, do not run, face the animal, appear larger, speak firmly, and slowly back away. Separate reports placed a mountain lion near a south Cheyenne neighborhood, while Lincoln police investigated multiple reports near Joiner Parkway and Ferrari Ranch Road; Lincoln officials had not confirmed the animal was present. Authorities in those areas also urged residents to stay alert, keep children and pets close, and avoid approaching wildlife.
