Republican Groups Report Massive Midterm Fundraising
Campaign fundraising is surging ahead of the November midterms, with outside Republican groups raising heavily even as many Democratic Senate candidates are outraising their individual GOP rivals. Billionaire and corporate money is a major part of the national picture: Elon Musk contributed $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, while the Congressional Leadership Fund and its affiliated group have raised $370 million this election cycle. In Tennessee’s Clarksville-area state House races, Republican Rep. Aron Maberry has raised nearly 84 times as much as Democratic challenger Garfield Scott, while Democratic Rep. Ronnie Glynn has raised more than twice the amount of Republican challenger Chris Lanier. The scale of spending has also prompted criticism from a small-donor perspective, including concern that campaign contributions flow to media companies and that candidates rely too heavily on advertising rather than voter outreach.
