Republican Jon Echols wins Oklahoma attorney general race
Republican Jon Echols won the race to become Oklahoma’s next attorney general, defeating Democrat Nick Coffey; early results showed Echols with more than 56% of the vote. Echols, a former state representative who served 12 years in the Oklahoma House, will succeed Gentner Drummond and is scheduled to be sworn in Jan. 11. He has pledged to apply the law equally, support law enforcement, protect Oklahomans’ freedoms and landowners, and uphold Judeo-Christian values. In his victory speech, Echols described the campaign’s goal as creating a “safer, freer, stronger Oklahoma.”
