Residents question proposed data centers across communities
Communities weighing proposed data centers are seeking more information about their potential effects on water, power, noise, traffic, pollution and quality of life. In Hudspeth County, Texas, Serverdomes scheduled an open-house meeting for residents to ask questions about its Hueco Ranch project, including its resource needs and construction timeline. In Union Township, Pennsylvania, residents voiced strong opposition and said key issues—including water sourcing and projected economic benefits—remain unanswered. In Guilford County, North Carolina, some residents urged a 32-month pause to study impacts and develop protections, while others warned that a lengthy moratorium could cost the county opportunities; commissioners postponed a decision. In Chillicothe, Ohio, a councilman acknowledged residents’ concerns but said utility officials and a longtime mill worker expected little impact on city water and power, arguing that decisions should rely on operational expertise.
