Restaurant closures reported across US, UK
Several restaurants are closing in 2026, citing financial pressures or marking the end of long-running community chapters. George’s Place West in Rio Grande, New Jersey, plans to close November 1 after years serving breakfast and lunch; its owners have not explained the decision but say they will share plans for the business’s next chapter. Los Angeles Arts District fixture Everson Royce Bar will close December 20 after more than a decade, pointing to the difficulty of doing business in the city. In Akron, Ohio, Leonardo’s Pizza shut down October 13 after nearly 60 years, with its owner citing soaring food and energy costs. The Giddy Goose in Consett, England, closed its restaurant immediately after 19 months, blaming rising costs and insufficient business, but plans to continue takeaway service for now.
