Restaurants close, plan closures across US, UK
Several restaurants are closing or scaling back, for reasons ranging from retirement to financial pressure. On the Isle of Wight, Murray’s will close at the end of October after owners Brian and Fran Bracken spent 35 years running the Cowes restaurant; the couple plan to retire after serving generations of local families. Huntington Ale House in West Virginia has closed until further notice and is offering refunds for active gift cards. In Charlotte, Dank Bowls has ended its uptown café and takeout operation less than a year after opening, but its owner says home deliveries will continue and has floated the possibility of a future walk-up counter. Bristol’s Coq restaurant has ceased trading and entered liquidation because it was no longer financially viable, while its separate Chippenham location remains open.
