Gaël Monfils named France Davis Cup captain after retirement
Recently retired French tennis star Gaël Monfils has been appointed captain of France’s Davis Cup team, succeeding Paul-Henri Mathieu, who held the role for three years. The 40-year-old brings a 22-year professional career, 13 ATP titles and extensive Davis Cup experience to the job; he reached two finals as a player but never won the trophy. Monfils said he is proud to lead the national team and wants to build a collective project capable of winning titles. Former French players Richard Gasquet and Gilles Simon will support him. France’s next Davis Cup campaign is scheduled to begin in February 2027, after the team failed to qualify for this year’s finals.
