Rhode Island Republicans Lose Four Legislative Seats

Rhode Island voters elected a new governor and Providence mayor, while returning the lieutenant governor and the state’s congressional delegation to office. In the General Assembly, four Republican incumbents and one independent lost to challengers, leaving Republicans with just 10 of 113 seats. Despite those losses, the legislature remained largely unchanged: excluding open seats, 95% of lawmakers who won were incumbents, and political analysts said the results did not signal a major shift in state government.
