Riverside Exhibit Details How Grizzlies Vanished From California
The Museum of Riverside has opened “California’s Grizzlies,” a hands-on exhibit at the Orange Terrace Community Center exploring the state’s vanished grizzly bears. Visitors can view a life-sized bear silhouette and replica skull, compare their hands with a grizzly paw, and learn about the animals’ size, diet, behavior and history through videos, maps, photographs and illustrations. The exhibit also examines how Indigenous communities lived alongside grizzlies and how human activity led to their disappearance; wild grizzlies have not been documented in California for about a century, though the bear remains on the state flag.
