Rivian R2 VIN Count Reportedly Tops 11,000

Rivian has refreshed its 2027 R1S and R1T lineup with simplified Premium, Performance and Quad trims, a new Esker Silver exterior color and, for the first time, an R1S six-seat layout with second-row captain’s chairs and a center pass-through. The changes bring the larger R1 vehicles closer to the R2’s simpler product structure. Rivian’s R2 production ramp also appears to be accelerating, with community trackers reporting VINs above 11,400, though VIN assignments do not represent completed or delivered vehicles and Rivian has not released model-specific production figures. Rivian plans to add a second shift at its Normal, Illinois, plant, while tracked data shows hundreds of R2s delivered and a median build-to-delivery period of about a month. The final R2 launch color, Borealis, has begun appearing on the production line and is expected to become orderable in September. An owner’s 5,000-mile review praised the R2’s driving experience, space, comfort and charging while citing air-conditioning failure, unresolved rattles and creaks, and easily scratched interior plastics as shortcomings.
