RJ Luis Temporarily Eligible After Judge’s Injunction
A Baton Rouge judge issued an injunction temporarily allowing LSU guard RJ Luis to play for the Tigers and preventing the school and Southeastern Conference from penalizing LSU for adding him to its roster. Luis’s attorneys sought the order amid a dispute over SEC rules barring players with significant professional experience; Luis briefly had contracts with the Utah Jazz and Boston Celtics after going undrafted in 2025 but did not play for either team. The ruling could allow him to appear in LSU’s season opener, while a Nov. 13 hearing is expected to determine whether he can remain eligible. The SEC has previously threatened stronger penalties for schools that violate its professional-experience rules, and its broader dispute with LSU is also playing out in court.
