Rockets Hire Chip Engelland To Boost Shooting
Chip Engelland has been hired by the Houston Rockets as an assistant coach to specialize in shooting and player development. He is 65 and renowned for improving shooting, with a career spanning the Spurs, where he helped Kawhi Leonard and Tony Parker, and the Thunder more recently. He contributed to the Thunder’s improved shooting and development of Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren on the way to strong playoff runs. Under head coach Ime Udoka, Engelland will work with Rockets youngsters such as Amen Thompson and Alperen Şengün to elevate their 3-point efficiency and floor spacing. His hiring follows Houston’s emphasis on adding veteran shooting expertise after a season marked by outside shooting struggles. Colleagues and analysts often refer to him as “The Shot Doctor,” a nod to his focus on mechanics and player confidence.
