Ruto Attends WNBA Game Supporting Kenyan Star Okot

Kenyan President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto attended the Atlanta Dream’s WNBA game against the New York Liberty in Brooklyn to support Kenyan-born player Madina Okot. Ruto and Okot shared a courtside meeting and selfie, with the president highlighting his support for the rising basketball star and her Kenyan roots. Atlanta defeated New York 83-65 to secure the No. 4 playoff seed; Okot played briefly and recorded one rebound. Selected 13th overall by Atlanta in the 2026 WNBA Draft, Okot is the first Kenyan woman to reach and play in the WNBA and said she hopes her experience will open opportunities for more Kenyan girls in basketball.
