Samsung SDS Begins 60MW AI Data Center Construction
Samsung SDS has started building a dedicated AI data center in Gumi, South Korea, planned to open by the end of 2028 with 60 megawatts of initial capacity and room to expand to 120 megawatts. Separately, Samsung SDI reported its strongest quarterly operating profit in three years in the third quarter of 2026, as rising demand for utility-scale energy storage and AI data-center backup batteries helped drive a 52.6% year-over-year revenue increase. The battery maker said it secured more than 60 gigawatt-hours of U.S. energy-storage orders this year and began mass-producing lithium iron phosphate cells at its Indiana facility in October, while shifting more production toward storage batteries amid softer electric-vehicle demand. It is also pursuing U.S.-based supply chains for LFP materials to address tariffs and federal sourcing rules.
