San Diego State opened its first season as a Pac-12 member with a dominant 53-20 win over Portland State at Snapdragon Stadium. The Aztecs used two blocked punts, a 100-yard kickoff return and a strong ground game to pull away, rushing for 237 yards and scoring on five of seven red-zone trips. Portland State moved the ball effectively through the air and won the time-of-possession battle but settled for field goals early and struggled to finish drives, falling to 0-2. In another San Diego-area matchup, No. 7 UC Davis defeated San Diego 49-17 behind Treynor Cleeland’s five touchdown passes and Matteo Perez’s 79-yard scoring run. The Aggies scored 28 points in the second quarter to take control and improved to 2-0, while San Diego committed two interceptions in its season opener.
