San Jose Officers Charged in Alleged Drug Cover-Up
Two San Jose police officers, Raydarius Surry and Destiney Thompson, were arrested and charged with evidence tampering and filing false police reports in an alleged scheme to conceal missing drug evidence. Authorities say Surry failed to log suspected narcotics seized in a May arrest, then in August took a similar bag from an unrelated pedestrian, let the person go, and entered the drugs under the May case. Investigators allege Thompson, who was in a relationship with Surry, reviewed body-camera footage to help plan the substitution. Both officers had been on paid leave since September; reports say they were released on bail as the criminal case proceeds. The police chief said the department removed them from duty and is pursuing accountability, emphasizing officers’ responsibility to preserve evidence and give truthful accounts.
