Sarandon Says Gaza Stance Costs Her Film Roles
At the Venice Film Festival, Oscar-winning actor Susan Sarandon said she continues to lose film opportunities because of her outspoken support for Palestinians and criticism of Israel’s conduct in Gaza. Sarandon said agencies are still warning producers not to hire her, while arguing that public understanding of U.S. financial and military support for Israel has changed since the war began. She was dropped by United Talent Agency in 2023 after controversial remarks at a pro-Palestinian rally, which she later apologized for. Sarandon said some Hollywood figures remain opposed to her views, but thanked director Andrea Pallaoro for casting her in The Echo Chamber despite warnings and said she feels supported by an international community.
