School Boards Weigh Ballot Measures, SEND Accountability
School-related debates range from ballot measures and district funding to accountability and board leadership. Colorado’s Boulder Valley school board unanimously opposed Proposition 134, which would restrict student-athletes’ team eligibility based on biological sex, and supported Proposition NN, which would let the state retain about $500 million otherwise subject to taxpayer refunds for K-12 education and children’s programs. In Minnesota, Caledonia school board candidate Crystal Frese said she would emphasize evidence-based discussion and supported a facilities referendum covering security and building upgrades, with taxes expected to remain flat. A Noblesville school board member seeking reelection highlighted listening across differences and keeping decisions focused on students and the community. Separately, a UK petition calls for independent reviews and greater school accountability before students with special educational needs and disabilities lose placements, including proof that reasonable adjustments have been considered.
