Schumer Urges FCC to Reject AI Call Bid
Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer urged the FCC to reject a Club for Growth petition that would allow political groups to make AI-generated or prerecorded calls to cellphones without prior consent. He warned that campaigns could imitate opponents’ voices to spread deceptive messages and deepfakes, while the group argued that political calls should receive the same treatment as certain other wireless calls. The FCC was reviewing the request as the public comment period closed ahead of the November congressional election.
