Nearly 1,750 monarchs tagged to map Texas migration funnel

Scientists with the National Wildlife Federation and partner researchers are attaching solar-powered radio tags to monarch butterflies to map their migration routes and identify vital places where they rest, especially along Texas’s “funnel.” Tracking nearly 1,750 butterflies this year could help researchers understand the insects’ movements and protect habitats threatened by habitat loss, pesticides and climate change. The public can follow tagged butterflies through the Project Monarch Science app.
