Seahawks running back and physician Dan Doornink dies at 70
Dan Doornink, a former Washington State and Seattle Seahawks running back who later practiced internal medicine in Yakima for more than three decades, has died at 70, the Seahawks announced. He played seven seasons in Seattle, appearing in 105 games and rushing for 1,836 yards and 15 touchdowns. Doornink helped the Seahawks reach their first playoffs in 1983 and is especially remembered for rushing for 123 yards in Seattle’s 1984 wild-card victory over the Los Angeles Raiders. A WSU Hall of Famer, he was known as “Dr. Dan” for pursuing medical studies while playing and later became a beloved physician and community member. He had previously spoken publicly about a severe bout of COVID-19 complicated by a rare blood disorder.
