Sempra Signs First South American LNG Deal with Petrobras
Sempra Infrastructure has signed a 20-year agreement to supply Brazil’s Petrobras with approximately 800,000 tonnes of LNG annually from the Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 project in Texas. Petrobras will be Sempra’s first South American LNG customer, giving Brazil access to long-term U.S. natural gas while helping secure the contracted capacity needed to finance and develop the expansion. Port Arthur Phase 2 is designed to add about 13 million tonnes per year through two trains expected to begin commercial operations in 2030 and 2031; combined with Phase 1, the facility could reach roughly 26 million tonnes of annual capacity. The deal adds to Phase 2 agreements with ConocoPhillips, JERA and EQT and reflects continued international demand for long-term U.S. LNG supplies.
