Senegal Migrant Boat Sinking Kills 21, Search Continues
At least 21 people died and one survivor was rescued after a migrant boat capsized or ran aground off Senegal’s northwestern coast near Kébémer, authorities said. Search and rescue operations continued, and officials described the death toll as provisional while agencies assisted victims’ families and sought possible survivors. The sinking adds to the dangers of the Atlantic migration route used by West Africans attempting to reach Europe; Senegal’s government said it would combat people-smuggling networks and cooperate with neighboring countries.
