Sensory rooms open at arena, leisure centre and community center
New sensory rooms are opening at public venues to give people with sensory processing needs a place to calm down and regroup. At Philadelphia’s Xfinity Mobile Arena, a Kidology-designed room is available during games and family events; visitors can take a brief break and receive free sensory bags before returning to the event. A new room at Energise Leisure Centre in York, funded by the regional authority, offers interactive and calming equipment for children under five and can be booked by families and community groups. Perinton, New York, has also opened a quiet room at its community center, equipped with items such as noise-canceling headphones, weighted toys and blackout tents; the project was shaped with input from local accessibility and advocacy groups.
