Seven Arrested After Fireworks Launched at Birmingham Crowds
Fireworks were launched toward pedestrians and police during Halloween celebrations in Birmingham city centre, sending crowds fleeing and prompting reports of panic and disorder. West Midlands Police arrested seven people aged 15 to 26 in and around Stephenson Street and Corporation Street on suspicion of offenses including assault and possession of fireworks and an offensive weapon; they remained in custody for questioning. A Section 60 order gave officers additional stop-and-search powers as police responded to the incidents. Witnesses described fireworks exploding close to people, though the reports did not confirm whether anyone was injured.
