Seven Face Charges Over Alleged $1.2 Million Rhode Island Medicaid Fraud

Seven people in Rhode Island have been charged in separate investigations alleging more than $1 million in Medicaid fraud. Prosecutors say the alleged schemes included billing for services to deceased or otherwise ineligible patients, claiming payment for care that was not provided, and submitting claims for medical transportation that investigators say did not occur as reported. One psychiatrist is accused of billing for work he allegedly did not perform, while transportation providers allegedly claimed rides when they were uninsured or unavailable. The state attorney general said the alleged fraud diverted taxpayer funds intended to support health care for vulnerable residents; the charges remain allegations.
