Shark Alerts Prompt Closures Across Two Countries
Nahoon Beach in South Africa’s Eastern Cape was temporarily closed after a shark was sighted, with officials telling beachgoers to stay out of the water until it is confirmed safe. The closure followed a fatal shark attack at Orient Beach that killed 65-year-old Janine Lochrenberg; nearby Orient and Eastern beaches have since reopened. Buffalo City officials urged swimmers to follow beach-safety instructions and swim only when lifeguards are on duty, with lifeguard hours set to increase during peak periods.
