Sharks Reportedly Make Serious Edvinsson Trade Offer
The San Jose Sharks have held substantive talks with the Detroit Red Wings about restricted free-agent defenseman Simon Edvinsson, and Elliotte Friedman reports that Detroit rejected at least one serious Sharks offer. Detroit says it still hopes to sign the 23-year-old and can wait until the Dec. 1 deadline, after which Edvinsson would be ineligible to play in the NHL this season. The Red Wings are reportedly seeking young centers, raising speculation that San Jose might need to consider a major prospect or young player such as Michael Misa or Will Smith, though no potential deal terms have been confirmed. Edvinsson could address San Jose’s need for a stronger, younger defense corps, but the price remains uncertain; Boston, Nashville, St. Louis and Seattle have also shown interest.
