Sherri Shepherd Wins Daytime Emmy After Show Cancellation

Sherri Shepherd won Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host at the 53rd Daytime Emmy Awards, beating Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Tamron Hall and the co-hosts of The View. The award came months after Sherri was canceled; its final episode aired in May, and the show’s producers said the decision reflected changes in daytime television rather than the program’s quality. Shepherd was absent from the ceremony because she is playing the Genie in Aladdin on Broadway, so presenter Greg Mathis accepted the award for her. The Kelly Clarkson Show won Best Daytime Talk Series and three craft awards, despite having ended its run in August after seven seasons. Clarkson’s series remains eligible for another round of Daytime Emmys because of the awards’ calendar-year eligibility rules.
