Sherwood District Proposal Heads to 2027 Vote
The Arkansas State Board of Education unanimously approved an election on whether Sherwood should separate from the Pulaski County Special School District, with residents in the proposed district set to vote March 2, 2027. The plan, based largely on the Sylvan Hills High School attendance area, could move about 4,600 students into a new district. Supporters say the vote gives Sherwood residents a say in how local students are educated; critics have raised concerns about limited community input, the inclusion of Harris Elementary, and potential future costs. The proposal follows the end of a decades-long federal desegregation case involving the county district, which had previously prevented the process from advancing.
