Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon, is scheduled to reopen Nov. 12, nearly a month after a shooting that killed three students and a teacher and wounded two others. Restoration work is expected to finish by Nov. 9, giving staff time to prepare classrooms and families an opportunity to visit before students return; the first day back will be an early-dismissal day, followed by a full day on Nov. 13. The district plans to have a school resource officer, additional administrators and staff, and more mental health support specialists on campus through the transition, and has temporarily paused its volunteer program. The district says families may return on different timelines and is offering opportunities for community members to discuss school safety and climate.
