Singer Duncan Sheik Hospitalized in Critical but Stable Condition
Duncan Sheik, 56, is hospitalized in New York City in critical but stable condition, his family said in an Instagram statement on Sept. 16-17, 2026. The family said Duncan is currently receiving medical care, would not share further medical details out of respect for him and the family, asked for privacy during this incredibly difficult time, and thanked fans for continued love and support. The cause was not disclosed. Sheik had posted from hospital weeks earlier. On Aug. 20 he wrote he would rather be making music at home but that boring hospital stays have their benefits. On Sept. 6 he said he was still bored in hospital; on Sept. 7 he posted Out of here in 60 hours. After the family statement, a fan wrote: Duncan we love you so much. All the love in the world to you and your family. Sheik is known for Barely Breathing and for Spring Awakening, which ran 859 Broadway performances and later saw major revivals. Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen was set to begin previews Sept. 25, 2026; a Spring Awakening Off-Broadway revival has previews starting Nov. 27, 2026. The family said it would provide updates when appropriate.
