Smart Glasses Face Push for Restrictions

Governments and school districts are weighing restrictions on smart glasses amid concerns that their cameras can enable covert recording and that internet and AI access could facilitate cheating. In Pakistan, a petitioner has asked the Lahore High Court to ban sales, arguing the glasses threaten privacy and security; the court summoned senior officials after several agencies failed to respond. Pennsylvania lawmakers advanced a bill requiring recording indicators that users cannot disable, while Worcester school officials are considering a ban on students using glasses that can discreetly record or access information during school. Cumberland County Schools in North Carolina has adopted a rule requiring employees to power off recording-capable glasses while working, with advance approval required for disability-related exceptions.
