British Columbia Fires Send Smoke Across Western Canada and US
NOAA smoke reports describe numerous fires in British Columbia, with smoke spreading across western Canada, into the Pacific, and at times southeast into the contiguous United States. Separate observations reported fires and smoke in Washington and Oregon, while fires in California’s central Sacramento Valley produced medium-to-heavy smoke. One report noted light smoke from isolated Idaho fires; extensive cloud cover obscured much of the contiguous United States, though light remnant smoke was visible east of Florida. Across coastal Mexico and the Gulf region, light smoke from fires and industrial sources extended over the Pacific and into the Gulf of America, while heavier plumes from offshore industrial sources in the Bay of Campeche were also reported.
