Snap Launches $2,195 Specs AR Glasses

Snap has launched its $2,195 Specs augmented-reality glasses as self-contained wearable computers with dual lens displays, support for AR applications, navigation, gaming and entertainment. The company is taking preorders for delivery later this fall and is offering a 5G-enabled carrying case, with cellular service priced at $10 monthly for Verizon customers and $20 for others. Snap also introduced Specs Intelligence, an AI assistant available through the glasses as well as iPhone and Mac apps; it can connect to services such as Messages, Gmail and Slack, anticipate users’ needs and perform tasks including retrieving travel information or purchasing movie tickets. The company is positioning Specs for enterprise use as well, citing potential applications with Salesforce and efforts to build partnerships across AR, mixed reality and enterprise software. Snap has expanded access to its companion iOS app, which lets users pair and control Spectacles, mirror phone activity, share the glasses’ view and preview Specs Intelligence features.
