South Carolina Hosts Towson Before SEC Play

South Carolina hosts Towson on Saturday night seeking a 2-0 start and another tuneup before opening SEC play against Mississippi State on Sept. 19. The Gamecocks are coming off a program-record 57-point season-opening shutout of Kent State, during which LaNorris Sellers threw three touchdown passes and the defense held Kent State to 179 total yards. Coach Shane Beamer said South Carolina still must improve its run defense, create pressure from the edge and maintain its discipline, while Towson is expected to attack downfield and bring aggressive pressure on third downs. Towson enters at 0-2 after losses to Maine and Navy, but quarterback Andrew Indorf, receiver Cleveland Charlton and versatile running back Kemarrion Battles give the Tigers potential big-play threats. The game will be South Carolina’s 18th consecutive sellout at Williams-Brice Stadium and Towson’s first road game outside Maryland.
